What are communications skills?

Possessing the ability to communicate clearly and effectively is probably one of the most important life skills. Communication enables us to pass on information to others and understand the information passed on to us by other people. Everything we do revolves around effective communication from the time we are born to when we die.

At its simplest, communication can be defined as the act of transferring information. This can be done vocally, through the written word in books, magazines, and online, visually using images, graphs, or non-verbally through gestures, body language, pitch, and tone of voice. Wikipedia defines it as the activity of conveying information through speech, writing, or other behavior. Practically, communication is usually a combination of several or all of these methods.

Communication skills make it possible for individuals to understand themselves and understand others. When you have strong communication skills, you are able to convey information to others in a way that is easy for them to understand. Good communication skills make it possible for you to distribute messages concisely and clearly so that the recipient understands. Effective communication skills can go a long way.
