What is Brotherhood?

The definition of brotherhood by Merriam-Webster is either the quality or state of being brothers, a fellowship, an alliance, an association (such as a labor union or monastic society) for a particular purpose and the whole body of persons engaged in a business or profession.

Socially, brotherhood can be described as a strong relationship between close make friends or brothers. It is also a feeling of kinship with other people. For example, whenever two best friends who are male have a very close friendship, this can be defined as a brotherhood. It is also defined as a belief in or a feeling of cooperation and unity among men.

Being part of a brotherhood is very important to a man. Brotherhood starts from childhood or can be built even in adult life. Brotherhood is much deeper than simply having male friends you can drink with or watch sports with.

Men are often seen as these strong, stoic figures expected to be great role models, amazing sons, great brothers, perfect fathers, amazing spouses, and most importantly, people who do not show weakness. This stereotype forces most men to fight their battles alone from fear of being weak and unreliable.

Brotherhoods exist to remind men that it is okay to have bad days, feel weak, or break down. When you are part of a brotherhood, you are sure there is a place you can go to and people you can talk to about any aspect of your life. Your brotherhood friends are there to offer advice, guidance, and support in every area of your life. A brotherhood reminds you that you are not alone.

The greatest benefit of having is brotherhood is having a sense of accountability. These are brothers you can be vulnerable with and confide in. this gives you a sense of responsibility to be better and meet your goals no matter what they are. A brotherhood ensures you stay on track. A brotherhood gives you perspective about what is important in life, further enhancing everything you learned when growing up.

When you are part of a brotherhood, you learn from fellow men about how a man should lead, how they should date, prepare for a future family, and even advance in his career and financial life. Thus, brotherhood is a source of knowledge for men by fellow men for their professional and personal life.

Qualities of a Healthy Brotherhood

Healthy Brotherhood Honesty

Men are less likely to express their honest emotions and feelings to other men. So if you find that you can sit and have honest conversations with your friends about your feelings, emotions, challenges, and issues, you can say that you are in brotherhood and have a sense of brotherhood in your friendship.

In a typical Brotherhood, members of a group should trust you enough to tell you everything about themselves and vice versa.

Sense of Sacrifice

For a brotherhood to be successful, the needs to be a sense of sacrifice and dedication. There needs to be an element of sacrifice for each other, be it finances and time. If friends can sacrifice for one another in the little things, it shows that they can be depended on when you need them the most.

Any form of friendship requires a level of loyalty to survive. A brotherhood built on loyalty makes it easier for brothers to share about anything. This is done with the confidence that what is shared in the brotherhood will remain in the brotherhood. If you are in a friendship built on loyalty, then you are in a brotherhood.

An ideal Brotherhood is about dependability. If you find yourself canceling plans with your friends more often than you keep your word, you are not dependable, hindering your relationships from becoming a brotherhood. Being in this group is about being dependable and keeping your word as much as possible. Dependability builds trust and makes it easier for people to develop trust.

Shared Interests

For a brotherhood to work, you need to like most of the same things and enjoy the same activities. While it is fine to disagree on some stuff, the best friendships are based on shared interests since it increases the number of things you can do together. Generally, men are attracted to men on the same level and have the same interests.

While you do not need a fellow man to be your bodyguard, you need a wingman. The best brotherhood relationships are built on protecting one another’s characters, even when it is attacked in your friend’s absence. Therefore, even in rare physical confrontations, you should always be ready to be there for your friend.

To enjoy all the benefits that come with being part of a brotherhood, you need to find the best group in your area. You can find resources on different brotherhood groups on social media platforms and websites. Mensgroup is one of the best groups you can join.

Why You Need a Brotherhood?

Why You Need a Brotherhood?

Men need brotherhoods to become better men.

According to statistics, men are more likely to firm in gender-based groups compared to women. They also have the highest number of groups that meet in secret, commonly referred to as secret societies. Most of these groups have specific agendas, including politics and even religion.

One of the reasons to join a brotherhood is to experience growth. Men are more likely to follow through with their plans and ideas when they know other men are looking. Men come together to share ideas, opportunities, and information to sharpen one another in different ways. It is only through challenges from fellow men that a man can truly grow.

Men learn through bonding with fellow men.

According to David Deida, the author of Way of the Superior Man, Life as a man is like a constant error correction. Making a mistake, and correcting, then making another mistake and correcting. This is very different from how women interact and bond with one another. Men are binary and only see things in terms of right and wrong.

Men require some feedback and guidance to correct their errors and try to do it the right way next time. This is how they learn about being a man since they are not good at feeling things through. To do the correct thing, they need to be around men with ‘correct’ behavior to learn. This is part of the reason men need brotherhoods.

Brotherhoods can help men heal from fatherlessness and depression.

According to statistics, men make up ¾ of all successful suicides. As the numbers continue to skyrockets amongst men in the past decade, middle-aged men are most prone to suicide, accounting for more than 30 for every 100,000 deaths. The suicide cases amongst men in their 50s have also skyrocketed by at least 50% in the last decade, with isolations as one of the leading causes.

Men are not good at making friends and keeping them. They also do not know how to ask for help or express how they feel. This causes them to feel lonely and isolated, often leading to depression and other mental health issues. Men miss being part of brotherhood to make them feel safe and open to sharing their true feelings and struggles. The lack of strong role models has made it impossible for men to have mentors who teach them how to be sensitive, strong, and courageous without feeling weak or inadequate.

Brotherhoods are ideal for men to stand up for fellow men, step up, and lead as fathers and men. They are an ideal way to end fatherlessness and loneliness amongst men.
